Dear Friend of the
Festival,
For the past 43
seasons, the Newport
Music Festival has
brought memorable
chamber music
concerts and
inspired programs to
some of the most
beautiful venues in
Newport. Your
support, and the
generosity of our
community, has
helped to create a
truly world class
event that we can
all be proud to call
our own.
Last season the
Festival faced
several
unprecedented
challenges. It was
the first time in
thirty five years
our dearly departed
Dr. Mark P.
Malkovich, III was
not at the helm to
provide guidance and
his legendary
artistry.
Economically, times
were very tough for
everyone. This fact
took its toll on
non-profits across
our nation and we,
too, struggled.
Over the last year
we’ve worked
diligently to
tighten our belt and
look at new ways to
do more for less,
while still
maintaining the high
standards you’ve
come to expect.
Fortunately we
didn’t have to cut
back on the number
of concerts offered
last season thanks
in part to your
support and the
shared sacrifice of
our “family of
artists” and
festival staff.
This year, as we
approach our 44th
season together, we
will need to raise
approximately
$350,000 to keep
this great festival
running. Only forty
percent of the
revenue to run a
festival of this
scale and stature
comes from box
office sales. The
rest must come from
private and public
granting
foundations,
corporate
sponsorships and the
generous
contributions of
individual patrons
like you.
While we remain
upbeat about the
future of the
Newport Music
Festival, current
economic
uncertainties worry
us greatly. On
behalf of the entire
foundation, I thank
you for your past
support and ask you
to again make the
Festival a part of
your annual giving.

year, every gift is
more important than
ever to ensure that
this great festival
will continue to
exist and the music
is kept alive for
all of us to enjoy.
